Stop Smoking Gum Archives

Would gum help you stop smoking?

Im very young and i smoked (cuz of my stupid friends) so now imma stop.. imma get a pack of cigs in monday from a friend but imma throw that away or sell it.. now i got a plan to chew gum (5 gum) i bought two packs.. so when im craving for a cig if i chew gum would it help me out. im probably gonna be chewing for a long time.. maybe til like september..

yes it can help, if you remain dedicated and are determined to stop. i believe a person can replace any habit with another habit. Often times people replace bad habits with other bad habits - transferring their addiction. but the gum should be fine!! you will need lots of will power though! also, don't think negatively.. you may not be chewing for as long as you think!!

What can I do to stop smoking?

I am 28 and I have been smoking almost 10 years. I am trying to quit, but it is so hard. I tried using various stop smoking aids, gum, patches, lozenges, etc, but those make me sick. I find that I am eating myself out of house and home to make up for the cigarettes, but I can't keep doing that. What suggestions do you all have? Please serious answers only, I am really wanting to quit! Thanks So Much!

When I quit smoking, I began by asking myself: Where do I smoke most often? FOr me, it's in the car. So I would NOT smoke in the car. Instead, I would turn up my radio and sing as loud as I could to keep my mouth busy. THat helped alot

Be the survivor of a major heart attack like my husband did and that ought to do it for you. My husband had smoked for years & I begged him to stop. How could I stress to our 5 children the dangers of smoking while their Dad puffed away. He tried to stop, he really did. He just wasn't man enough to put mind over matter. When he all but lost his life, he quit cold turkey, on his own, with no gimmicks.
He has been free for yrs. None of our 5 children or their spouses smoke. Thank God for helping me win that one.
Good luck to you.~~~~
My 32 yr. old nephew died 6 mo's. after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, as a direct result of smoking. It was a terribly painful death & very sad.

The shortest and least stressful way to quit is without drugs or nicotine replacements which prolong the process. Then the day you start your quitting process, just do it, no trying... do it, and keep doing it. Always remember to focus on the benefits of quitting rather than what you think you are missing.

my sister and her boyfriend plan to try and quit smoking, they've tried cold turkey once but it didnt quite work out, and i've heard that the gum and the patch doesn't work and i really wat to help them quit. is there anything that can help them quit???

Buy Allen Carr's book "The Easy Way For Women To Stop Smoking". It gives you lots of other alternatives and is a very renowned book and author. For her boyfriend Allen Carr also has "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking."

I don't wanna buy them..Can I make them from home?

Probably not. Unless you have a way to separate nicotine from tobacco leaves.

my boyfriend has been smoking for a few years now and it really is getting to me i dont know what to do to make him stop, his used the essentails the nicotine patches, gum etc but its not really made any difference is there any other help out there?

my sister used these 'inhalers' nicobate makes them or soemthing and you have this inhaler and you put nicotine 'capsule' things in it and you 'smoke' the inhaler just as you would with a ciggy and my sister went through all the gum and everything, but she also chewed the gum while using this inhaler, i strongly recommend it, it worked a charm on my older sister

How does gum help you stop smoking?

It gives you something to do. So you wont think about it as much.

I hate the smell of smoke and i hate the smell it leaves in my house, and car, its driving me crazy that i cant stop...

All of the people that I know who quit without meds or gum or patches did it on will power. It might sound far fetched, but it is not. They all had some kind of goal or reason as to keeping them going. Two of my friends stopped when someone they know got cancer. Two wanted kids. One was the fiancee's complaint. I hope you can find a strong reason for yourself to quit, and stay focused. Good luck!

i have stop smoking but am been chewing the gum for 5 days, and been very good, but i have allergy reaction which is a swollen jaw very pain full to chew one side and sore throat and swollen eyes lid,can i carry on using the gum?

Hi,

Sore jaw is a normal side effect especially if u are using alot of them.
Sore throat is also a side effect but may be because u have quit smoking because its normal to have a cough and sore throat for a few weeks after quiting, this is your bodies way of cleaning your lungs. Not sure about the eye lids I have never heard of this.

If you want my advise stop using the gum visit www.whyquit.org and start reading up. They give free advise and support for quitters and if you educate yourself about smoking you are way more likely to stay smoke free. In my opinion NRT just prolongs the process of quitting and makes it more difficult. Thats just my opinion, but please check out that site it will deffo improve your chance of staying clean.

Good luck and best wishes
