I was a smoker, started when I was 11- and married at 16, the moment the DR said I was preggers, as I walked out of the DR office, I dump my cigaretts in the garbage can!
stay quit foir nine months.... all on my own, it is a mind thing, anything you set your mind to do, you can do it.
I will admit though some things are more difficult for some others, like I cant seem to loose weight for the life of me! but I drop them smokes like a hot potato!
I want to add, I would goi back to smoking each time I had my baby- (had 3 of them) and when my baby daughter was 2- she picked up a pencil and was pretending to smoke- I said right then NO MORE.
That has been almost 17 years ago.

i want to quit smoking cus ive been smoking for a year and now im having trouble breathing. i tried nic gum but it doesnt work and is too expensive. what can i use to help?

I quit cold turkey, and it's been almost a year and a half now. This is my second time quitting, the first time was for 8 months. I had started again the first time because I constantly put myself in situations where I would normally smoke - so I recommend trying to avoid situations where you smoke, and maybe try to hang out with friends who don't smoke exclusively for awhile.

I have friends who have done the gum, the patch, the lozenges, the inhaler... etc etc. Nothing works for them. Personally, I think that having a scape goat like gum just sets you up for failure, because you are still working with the idea that you NEED something - either smoking, or something to replace the smoking.

In my opinion, the only way to really quit for good is with sheer willpower, and with changing the way you think - by teaching yourself to dislike smoking, and to not need smoking.

PS: if you are having trouble breathing, you should really see a doctor.

Have you personally quit smoking cigarettes or known someone who has? If so, what if any quit smoking aids did they use to help them and in what manner were they used? I want to try my 4th attempt at quiting smoking and all input and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had tried to quit smoking for about 5 years or so. The patches worked, but only for a few days or so. The only thing that ever worked for me was the new pill Chantix. It works by turning off the nicotine receptors in the brain. I didn't even have the cravings for a cigarrete. The only thing that gave me trouble was the habbit of the motion of smoking. What helped me with that was suckers. Good luck. By the way, these pills are not covered by most insurance and costed me about $130 a month.

I don't trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. Drugs especially because they are potentially dangerous also. I personally wouldn't go near the stuff, especially when there are so many other ways of quitting.
